Duran Duran 2012

Duran Duran 2012

Duran Duran - Sydney Entertainment Centre - 27th March 2012

Its not small secret that Duran Duran are my favourite band.  Yes I am a Duranie and proud of it.  From their heights of 1981 to 1985 (Girls on Film, Hungry Like the Wolf, Rio, Wild Boys, A View to a Kill) and in 1991 with Ordinary World and Come Undone to the lows of the 2000’s to the highs of 2010’s the band has without doubt stood the test of time with many current hip bands (Killers, Kaiser Chiefs, Dandy Warhol’s, Mark Ronson) being proud to declare them as their influences.  But you know I think music is a personal thing, so I’m not one to preach or labor a point – music speaks for itself, check out their latest album ‘All you Need Is Now’ and you decide (you wont be disappointed though).

These photos are from their Sydney Entertainment Centre show, I didnt get a photo pass – I was shooting for myself with a camera that I smuggled into the show.  So bear in mind that I didnt have my normal freedom of access of vantage points that an accredited photo pass and free access presents.  All the same, Im happy with my photos of my favourite band.  Hope you enjoy them too.

Fantastic, some really awesome shots here. Saw your Pseudo Echo shots too, even better. Any chance you could tell me what lenses you are shooting with, got some wicked focus.

    cheers

      Hi Simon,

Thanks for the feedback. I mostly shoot bands with a Canon 35mm 1.4 and the 135mm f2. Which is what I used for both the Duran Duran and Pseudo Echo shows (I think! – I know thats what I used for PE not sure if my memory serves me that well for Duran though). The other lens I could have used was a 50mm 1.4. I only really use those three lenses for photographing bands.

I match those lenses with a 5d Mk II and a 7D. I mostly match the 35mm with the 5d and then use the 50mm or 135 on the 7d.

Band photography can be tricky at the best of times as – as you probably know – photography is all about light – and light is something which is usually lacking at gigs – or there is too much light. So the scene can drastically change from one second to the next.

howdy enthralled to be coupled Hera. A small input
signal from me, things that you mentioned is true, just sometimes
in that location are or so international factors that too
    must be reasoned.

Though these factors volition greatly bear on the
    ending result.

    My small opinion
