Underground Lovers - Factory Theatre - 18th November 2011

Photographing for Live Guide again sees me venturing out to the Factory – just down the road from where I live.  90’s band, The Underground Lovers reformed in support of a recently released compilation CD.  Inspired by the likes of Joy Division, New Order and The Cure; the Underground Lovers heralded from Melbourne and put their own stamp on the Australian indie guitar pop scene through the 90’s and beyond.  Their biggest hit – ironically this band wasn’t about hits; but that’s what people remember – was 1994’s “Losin It”.  In 1992 Rolling Stone voted their “She Leaves Them Blind” as the best Australian Album that year. In the same year they were voted as best New Talent at the Australia Record Industry Association (ARIA) awards.

They were supported tonight by a band called “Underlights” (photos 1, 2 and 13) who – I must say were equally impressive.
