Did Someone Say Snow Shoot?

Did Someone Say Snow Shoot?

In August – being invited away for a weekend to photograph snow bunnies in the snow capped regions of NSW is one thing – but when that invitation is extended to you by two of the best Glamour photographers in Sydney – then thats a whole different ball game.

Having recently attended a few workshops with David Reid and Edward Hor – I was lucky enough to be invited for a weekend away to the snow to shoot with them and a few other photographers. And what a weekend it was! Starting at 9am for introductions and coffee at Dave’s place I was introduced to the rest of the crew – models Danah and Ally and few ‘togs Dan, Chris, Thomas. It wasnt too long before we commenced the 7 hour road trip. Being the obligatory father on the trip (which entitled me to the nick name of ‘pops’) I educated the rest of the troop in the art of ‘spot-o’ and other time-wasting-are-we-there-yet-games-that-are-aimed-at-keeping-kids-entertained.

With scheduled stops along the way for refuelling of the body and the mind – we eventually reached the ‘palace’ for the weekend – the Swag Man’s Rest in Jindabyn. After a quick unpack of the van we set up for our first shoot – in doors against a back lit fireplace – although when it came time for me to shoot the fire had well.. gone.

The following day saw us head off up to Perisher for the first of our snow shoots. It didnt take us too long to find snow – as we soon learnt that there was somewhat of a blizzard up in Perisher; so we found a nice spot beside the road and setup for our impromptu shoot. What I didnt expect though was the traffic jam which we were about to cause, with traffic from both directions stopping to watch us and take their own shots of us taking shots of the models – drawing the attraction of the Police who took little interest apart from throwing snow balls at us (yes you read that correctly!).

The second stop for the day – after a quick break for a late lunch, was into Threadbo Village – it was nearing dark and was getting pretty cold. This shoot was to feature Ally and her snow board. Full credit goes out to her for her dedication and commitment – I was freezing and I had a thick fleecy jacket on and gloves.

All up it was a fantastic weekend away; full of great laughs, got some great photos and most of all made some great new friends. Thanks everyone who attended and made it what it was and thanks to Dave and Ed for inviting us in the first place.

Here are some behind the scenes shots from the weekend. Enjoy!
